Where In Rhyl - v3.1 - The Answer

September 19th, 2011 · 5 Comments

A nice bit of erosion, but Where In Rhyl is it?

Pretty tricky to identify a single brick I know, but the erosion did lend itself to the promenade area and with most of the prom ‘new build’ these days, it narrowed it down even further.
Well done to local historian and ‘light tackle’ legend, Tony Lever, for getting this 100% right.

It was of course a brick from one of the kiosks on the prom by the Sky Tower.

Would I be right in assuming this small building was part of the original Pavillion complex? Surely it must date back to then?

My wife thinks I’m really sad knowing where it was. She says I should “Get a life”

I wondered where that was. Initially thought it was from loo in the sea wall near the harbour. Remember the Orange Peel disco over the road?
That building used to be the Detecta security office from the ’70s didn’t it?

    Remember the Orange Peel well.
More of a Brunels/Bistro man myself though.

    Thanks for the ‘Detecta’ information.
I remember pushing Roger Subway’s car right upto the door of that office. So close, that the security guards had to ‘Starsky and Hutch’ the bonnet to get out!
Roger was playing Super Mario Bros in The Mint at the time :)

yes, I was a Bistro man too (a member in fact).
I liked the fact you didn’t have to dress very smartly to get in.
They played great music as well. Bella Lagosi’s Dead etc.
My first disco was Nutz - remember that? Went there wearing my best new M&S pull over. Embarassing memory.
The Detecta guards were OK as I recall. Drove dark blue Ford Escort or Morris Marina Vans didn’t they? And they had big alsation dogs.

It changed to Frankies soon after.
Frankies was may place for a good while.

Got loads of Bistro New Years Pics that I’ll have to blog soon :)

    Good to hear from you!
