Dib Dib Dib, Weed Weed Weed!

July 27th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Turn your back for 5 minutes and the weeds have taken over the allotment!

It’s been a constant battle, and yesterday, the weeds were winning.
Time to sort them out and see what I could harvest.

Worst hit was the Beetroot.

Todays plan was to pull the Beets, clear the bed and plant the remaining Leeks and Red Cabbage.
With the bed clear, it was out with the dibber and the result was more pleasing to the eyes.
Leeks and Cabbage sorted.

The Onions are doing well inspite of the weeds starting to assert themselves.

Again, the weeds were cleared to allow the Onions to breath.

The Leeks that I planted out a few weeks ago seem to have established themselves well. My only real chore recently has been to remove the fallen apples from the holes.

A few Runner Beans are starting to show now.

A lone Corgette has given me a sign of things to come. Hopefully :)

I must have got my labelling wrong with the Cabbage and Sprouts. Being my first year growing either, I was marvelling at their growth whilst wondering where the edible bits where.
Turns out that the so far referred to Cabbage plants will now forever be known as the Sprouts :)

It’s a good job we like Leeks. If things go to plan, Max Boyce will be jealous!

After further weeding, the rest of the plot is in ship shape.
On the left is the healthy looking Corgette plant, to the right are the Squash. Above are the Cabbages Sprouts.

A good few hours spent today in some great weather. A very pleasant pastime me thinks :)

    Hi Linda,
The patch I affectionately refer to as ‘The Allotment’, is infact my back garden.

It’s been several years since I updated the Allotment blog.
I am still growing on a small scale.
Potatoes, Carrots, beetroot, Toms, Corgettes this year.

You have inspired me to do an update :)

Good Luck with your allotment and keep on top of those weeds.
