Well, the moblie phone image may be ropey and the thumb in view doesn’t help, but despite all that, you can clearly see a cracking shore caught fish.
It looks like a Smoothound to me, although I’m sure you experts out there will confirm whether or not it’s a small Tope(leave a comment below and let us know). I’d estimate it to be in the region of 8lbs(what do you think?).
It was caught by Scouser, Dickie on the 30th June 2008. Fishing over low water at the back of Ty Gwyn campsite, Towyn.
Yes, Towyn!
With Smoothound readily available to the boat and kayak fishermen from inshore marks in the area, it is quite a rarity to hear of shore caught hounds locally. A fish of 8lb would be a fair specimen if caught from the boats, so to see it landed on a local beach makes this catch all the more special.
Well done to Dickie for such a great catch and many thanks to Rob for supplying the report and picture.

The shorter more pointed snout says smoothy to me

However it looks more like a Tope to me!
Ive heard today, from a reliable source, that Spurdog and a Blue Shark have been caught in gill nets at Colwyn Bay in the last week!!! No idea of size yet, but these nets are set above the low water line, so these fish could be within casting distance from the shore.
